Stingrays Swim Team
The Stingrays Swim Team offers athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to learn about swimming as a sport while having fun and making friends! The team practices together and competes with Special Olympics Washington.
We encourage sportsmanship as well as competition. Coaching includes the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while working on physical training and stroke techniques.
In 2024, participation in this program is fully-funded by state grants and is strongly supported by volunteers.
To participate on the Stingrays Swim Team an athlete must be: over 5 years old and able to make their way independently across the pool (swimming or walking).
Pre-Registration
This is a Pre-Registration ONLY. Once you answer the questions and complete the registration you will either be contacted by a YMCA employee with further questions -or- contacted to confirm you transfer into full enrollment and the Stingray swim team’s roster.
Participation in swim meets with Special Olympics Washington is entirely optional and fully funded via scholarships. Events occur throughout the Greater Puget Sound region.
Practices are weekly on Saturday mornings at the Coach’s discretion.
This program is fully funded by the Dan Thompson Memorial Grant until June 2025
